Before the United States enters World War II, the 4 brothers split up and send 2 home to Japan. The other 2 run the business until they are relocated to Manzanar Internment Camp for the duration of the War. Upon their release, they return to Sawtelle Boulevard and re-open the nursery, changing the name to Hashimoto Brothers Nursery. |

The History |
The first of the Hashimoto brothers arrives in the Sawtelle area in 1928, which was then a burgeoning Japanese community. Realizing an opportunity, he calls 3 of his brothers to join him and together they open the O.K. Nursery in the location which will eventually become Hashimoto Nursery years later. |

In 1961 the 4 brothers reunite to run the business again. Eventually, 2 brothers will leave to open their own nurseries in the San Fernando Valley and Hemet. The nursery in West Los Angeles is the only one still in operation today. |
80 years and 3 generations later, Hashimoto Nursery is still family owned and operated, providing quality plants and friendly service to the Westside. |
